BRITISH
STANDARDS SOCIETY (BSS)
An introduction
to
STANDARDS USERS' BODIES
by
AAQA's Hon. President - Kenneth G Wallace F.A.A.Q.A.
I
am indebted to AAQA's Board of Governors for providing me with this
opportunity to outline the National and International activities of
Standards Users' Bodies and to encourage the Association's Members
to explore the substantial potential for professional and/or business
advancement that can be derived from proactive participation in the
activities of their territorially relevant Standards Users' Body.
By way of personally relevant example, the British Standards Society
(BSS) not only presents the considered views of its members to the
British Standards Institution (the Government recognised UK standards
development organization) on a wide diversity of subjects (See below)
but BSS also plays a key role in promoting and encouraging the uniform
implementation of International standards through its (founding) membership
of IFAN - International Federation of Standards Users.
Although there are substantial differences in the infrastructures
of the territorially representative members of IFAN, they all offer
opportunities for personal or corporate participation in standards
development activities.
In the case of BSS this is achieved through the division of its members
into 7 geographical regions, 6 for UK resident members and one for
"overseas" members (International Associates) and the entirely optional
involvement of the members in all or any of the following Special
Interest Groups:
Building Standards; Consumer Products & Services Standards; Electronic
Standards; Health & Environment Standards; Information Technology
Standards; Management Systems Standards and a Public Services Group.

for contact data in respect BSS and IFAN's other territorially representative
Members.
